After picking up four points from their first two league games of the season, HSV are now looking to enjoy a successful start to their DFB-Pokal campaign this weekend. In order to get past Rot-Weiss Essen on Sunday (13th August, 12:45 CEST), head coach Tim Walter’s side will need to dig deep. Read on for all the key quotes from today’s pre-match press conference.
Tim Walter on...
…the mindset heading into the cup match: "It’s important that, unlike in the game against Karlsruhe, we are alert right from the start. If we manage that, then it will be exactly what we need, regardless of whether we’re playing in the cup or the league. That’s the mindset we’re taking with us to Essen.”
…who will start in goal: "Matheo Raab will start in goal for us in the DFB-Pokal. We had already discussed this before the season began. Matze has undergone a tremendous development. Ferro has delivered some incredible performances for us over the last years, so this decision hasn’t been made for any performance-based reasons.”'
“It’s important that, unlike in the game against Karlsruhe, we are alert right from the start.”
…the atmosphere in Essen: "I’ve never taken charge of a game at the Hafenstraße, but I’ve heard a lot about it from Horst Hrubesch. There’s only one division between the two teams. Tradition and passion are woven into the fabric of both clubs. The atmosphere will be electric, but we want to come out on top.”
