Muheim back with the group as final week of training begins
The last week of the 2025/26 campaign is underway, and the HSV squad kicked off preparations for matchday 34 on Wednesday afternoon. There’s some positive news from the training pitches, as left-back Miro Muheim completed the full team session for the first time since picking up an injury.
With the finish line now in sight, the Hamburger SV first team got back to work on Wednesday afternoon (13th May) ahead of the final Bundesliga matchday of the season. Merlin Polzin’s side still have two more training sessions to complete before travelling to sixth-place Leverkusen for Saturday’s clash at the BayArena (16th May, kick-off 15:30 CEST). On Sunday (17th May), the Rothosen will then throw their support behind the HSV women’s team for their home fixture against FC Bayern München, before the players head off on a well-earned summer break.
There was little sign of the impending off-season at Wednesday’s session, however. Watched on by around 500 fans making the most of the school holidays to get close to the team once more, Polzin’s players began preparations for the trip to the Werkself. The standout news was the return of Miro Muheim, who completed full training after recovering from a syndesmosis injury. The left-back, who is set to travel to this summer’s FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico with his native Switzerland, missed the last three league matches but could now return to the squad for the season finale. “It looked good with him today. It would be nice if he could get some minutes again,” assistant coach Loic Fave said in Wednesday’s media round. “It was his first full session back, so we’ll have to see how things develop over the next few days.”

Fave: “We want to finish on a positive note”
Nicolas Capaldo, who was named in Argentina’s provisional World Cup squad earlier this week, missed training with a back problem, while Robert Glatzel was also absent due to a calf strain. “Capi has some minor back pain and we’ll need to see how things progress over the next few days,” explained Fave. “With Bobby, it could be tight in terms of Leverkusen.” Youngster Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit recently suffered a setback in his comeback from a syndesmosis injury and is about to begin rehabilitation again. The 19-year-old Norwegian underwent successful surgery on Monday.
Overall, though, the squad situation looks encouraging ahead of the final matchday in Leverkusen, particularly with Muheim back in training. And against this season’s Champions League participants, the Rothosen are determined to end the campaign on a high, as Fave underlined: “We definitely want to show what we’re capable of again, as we did against Freiburg. The final moments of a season are always important if you want to go into the summer with a good feeling. The players and all of us in the coaching staff want to finish on a positive note. Leverkusen are a strong side with a lot of quality, and we want to show that we can do better than we did in the reverse fixture in Hamburg.”
The strong turnout at Wednesday’s open session also provided the squad with an extra motivational boost. “It’s incredible and a really special sight,” said Fave. “We opened up training at short notice because we simply wanted to say thank you once more. It’s the school holidays, and so many people took the opportunity to come along. Moments like this are what make this club so special.” And now, club and supporters alike can see the finish line straight ahead.
