“We showed a good mentality”

Laszlo Benes: The most important things were the win and getting through to the next round. It was not easy; it feels like every time we took the lead we immediately conceded an equaliser. We have to work on that, on showing more concentration right until the end. At the same time, we showed a good mentality, always stayed in the game and came back from these blows. Obviously, I am pleased that I was able to help the team yet again with a goal. I just want to keep going, I am hungry for more.

Stephan Ambrosius: No one is happy conceding three goals, but that’s the cup for you. The first round is never easy in Essen. Everyone that has played here knows that. Still, we are through to the next round, will analyse the errors and then hopefully play better in the next game. 
Matheo Raab: My first thought was: The main thing is we’re through to the next round! We know that it wasn’t our best game. After our goals, we always then received a knock-back, we have to defend these passages of play better, but I am happy that we were able to win a game like this on a bad day for us. For me personally, it was nice that I was able to play. Now I am hoping that there will be a few more Pokal games to come.

Tim Walter: I will put it briefly: We achieved what we set out to do because we are through to the next round. That was our aim and we did it, even if we had to really work for it. All in all, it was a lively game in front of a brilliant crowd. RWE did well and the bottom line is that we got through with a bit of luck, although it definitely wasn’t undeserved.

Christoph Dabrowski: We are devastatingly disappointed because we saw a game that worked out exactly as we wanted. We asked everything of HSV and played with intensity and passion. Unfortunately, we played a big part in us conceding those first two goals, the team showed a really good mentality to come back from these setbacks and gave the fans a lift. We can be proud of our performance, but at the moment the overwhelming feeling is disappointment.
