"We will look for our chance!"
HSV coach Tim Walter spoke to the media on Sunday about the lost Stadtderby, the upcoming cup match in Leipzig and the current situation around the team.
In sport, the only thing that often helps is the next game. Preferably as early as possible. Especially after a particularly disappointing defeat like the one Hamburger SV experienced last Friday evening at FC St. Pauli (0:3). For HSV coach Tim Walter and his charges, this next game already awaits on Tuesday evening. In the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal, the Rothosen are guests of the defending champions and Champions League participants RB Leipzig (live on HSVnetradio from 5.45 pm). So HSV will soon have the chance to put aside their disappointment and frustration on the pitch. The Hamburg team will undoubtedly face one of the top teams in German football, but they proved in the last cup season 2021/22, when they made it to the semi-finals, that they can provide surprises and a sense of achievement in the cup. "We are the absolute underdogs, but we are looking forward to this game and want to make the most of our chances," explained Tim Walter during a media round on Sunday morning.
In doing so, the football coach spoke in detail about ...
... the lost derby: "The red card was definitely a crucial point. At that point it was 0-0 and we had everything under control, although we still had room for improvement. We were decimated by a carelessness. That shouldn't happen to us, but it did. As a result, we were still active because we want to win a game even with ten men. We have learned the lesson from the previous season not to play draws so often. We are not a team that plays not to lose. We want to play to win even in such a situation. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to do that. The disappointment is still there. Nevertheless, it is our job to look ahead. Fortunately, we already have the opportunity to do that on Tuesday.
... the Pokal match in Leipzig: The Pokal is a completely different competition. It gives us the opportunity to present ourselves as a club and a team. We are the absolute underdogs. RB Leipzig plays in the Champions League and is the reigning cup winner. We know the quality that this team has. Nevertheless, we will look for our chance and not deviate from our DNA. We want to show our face. We want to show what HSV stands for: courage, will and unity. That's why we're looking forward to this game.
... the current situation: There are always ups and downs in football. We'll continue on our way, and we won't let two games and their assessment from the outside affect us now. We stay with ourselves. Nobody helps us but ourselves. We have now had a defeat and a very big disappointment. Before that, we didn't lose six games in a row and won ten away games in a row. We don't let a defeat knock us down now and therefore don't paint everything black. Adversity is simply part of football. We have shown what we are capable of in so many games throughout the season.
... the connection with the fans: Our fans gave us great support in the derby. They invested a lot, delivered a great choreography. It's only natural that they're disappointed when we lose. It is then a matter of understanding each other. In the end, you can be disappointed together. It doesn't have to be against each other. When we walked out, the fans immediately shouted "HSV" after us again. That's where something really comes together, because the guys and gals in the corner develop an identity just like we do. That's why there's only unity and togetherness. Our fans will support us again on Tuesday.
