"You can see the great will of the team"
In the press conference before the away match at Holstein Kiel, head coach Tim Walter spoke about the approach to this northern duel and about the exciting final spurt of the season.
After HSV's 4-0 home win in the make-up game against FC Erzgebirge Aue, the table has been straightened out again, with all teams now having the same number of games. And so it is clear: Six matchdays before the end of the 2021/22 season, the Reds are six points behind the promotion places. The next chance to move closer again comes on Sunday (from 1.15 p.m. live on HSVnetradio), when HSV face Holstein Kiel in the northern duel. This is a special game for coach Tim Walter, as it marks his return to his old stomping ground. Much more important to the coach, however, are current events and looking ahead. That's why, in the press conference before the Kiel game, the coach spoke mainly about the current match and his own team. Tim Walter on ...
... the current situation at HSV: "We played a very good game against Aue, but I also liked our performance against SC Paderborn, even though we didn't win that game. Because in that game, too, I saw the great will of my team. Sometimes it's a bit more difficult as a team that plays with the ball, so it helps a lot if you don't fall behind but score the lead yourself. We managed to do that against Aue and it shows in the way we play. But I think their development is basically very positive anyway. Energy, drive, will and courage are not always reflected in the results. But it is also clear that we want to win every game. And for that we will continue on our path of development.
"It will be necessary to be toxic and gripping"
... the upcoming match: Kiel is Hamburg's smaller brother up here in the north due to its city size, but a difficult opponent on the pitch. The Kiel team will invest a lot and make sure that there will be a heated atmosphere in the stadium, as always. But of course we're going there to win the game, that's quite clear. To do that, it will be absolutely necessary not only to play good football, but also to be toxic and gripping.
... the end of the season: It's true that we no longer have to face the teams at the top. But: Games against teams from the bottom of the table are sometimes even more difficult in the final spurt of the season. For them, it's not just about three points, but often much more, because they want to avoid relegation with all their might. These tasks are not as easy as they might seem when looking at the table. Especially since this league has already provided examples several times that really anyone can beat anyone. But we take it game by game and of course want to win every game.
