Academy product Valon Zumberi departs HSV
The Hamburg-born defender will leave HSV at the end of the season after 15 years at the club.
Hamburger SV and centre back Valon Zumberi will go their separate ways at the end of the 2024/25 season after 15 years. Zumberi joined the club’s academy in summer 2010 from Norderstedter SV and went on to play for all of HSV’s youth sides, becoming a key player and leader in the academy teams. He signed his first professional contract at HSV in summer 2022 and made his only two competitive appearances for the club the following season, both in Bundesliga 2.
The Hamburg native has represented Kosovo at the U21 level, winning 18 caps and captaining them eight times. Zumberi moved on loan to Swiss side FC Schaffhausen for the second half of the 2023/24 season. After returning to the club last summer, the defender suffered a knee injury in the first training session of pre-season. This meant he didn’t play at all during 2024/25 and only returned to training with the U21s recently.
HSV would like to thank Valon for his many years in the academy, his dedication to the club and wish him all the best for his future.
