"At the moment there is just emptiness".

Hamburger SV loses 0:2 (0:1) to Hertha BSC in the relegation second leg and thus misses out on promotion to the Bundesliga. Boyata (4th) and Plattenhardt (63rd) scored the goals of the evening, shattering the dream and sending the Rothosen to the ground disappointed at the final whistle. The spectators in the sold-out Volksparkstadion showed a special sensitivity afterwards, despite all the disappointment, and honoured not only today's performance, but the entire season of the Hamburg team with chants. Sebastian Schonlau: When you lose such an important game, it really hurts. We expected it to be completely different, the early goal against hit us hard. In the course of the first half, we were able to stabilise, but the clear scoring chances were missing. The fans are remarkable, but it hurts all the more because of that, because you can see what it means to the people here. Nobody has to worry about us, we will be back.

Jonas Meffert: The Berliners did better today than last Thursday, they took the positive feeling with them thanks to the early goal and defended super. In the relegation, you just need a bit of luck, because you usually don't have many chances. Knowing the boys, we will attack again next season and try to get even more points. It's a big and tough setback, but if we all learn from it, it will make us even stronger. I just feel incredibly sorry for the fans.

Tim Walter: Congratulations to Hertha. Small things were decisive today. It wasn't the better team that won, but the luckier one. Nevertheless, I am very, very proud of my team. With the help of the spectators and the club, we have created something over the season and we are still not at the end. At the moment there's just emptiness, but the next few days we'll be moving on.
