DFB Pokal quarter-final: HSV hosts Karlsruher SC
The Red Shorts will meet their league rivals in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals (1/2 March). This was the result of the draw on Sunday evening at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.
Hamburger SV will face Karlsruher SC in the DFB Pokal quarter-finals. This was the result of the draw on Sunday evening (30 January) during the ARD sports show. Former Bundesliga professional and current BVB stadium announcer Norbert Dickel drew the names out of the hat at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, awarding the Rothosen the home match against the second-division team. "We are delighted to have a home game after three away games in a row. We are very happy with the draw. It's a doable task, although we can expect a tough game," explained club manager Bernd Wehmeyer, who attended the draw live on site. Head coach Tim Walter also says: "It's great that we have a home game. We're happy about the draw and looking forward to the game and hopefully we get to play in front of spectators, because with our fans behind us we want to get to the semi-finals."
KSC beat Sportfreunde Lotte 4-1 in the DFB Pokal 1st round, Eichner's side won 2-1 at Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2nd round and knocked out 1860 Munich 1-0 in the last 16. The last meeting between the two clubs in the DFB Pokal was on 19 August 2012, when the Baden side prevailed 4-2 in the 1st round. In the current second division season, the teams parted with a 1-1 draw on matchday 13. The matches of the current quarter-finals will take place on 2nd March 2022.
