Glatzel in focus: Another top performance under the lights
Robert Glatzel was heavily involved on Sunday evening during HSV’s home win against Hertha BSC. Once again it was a crazy game at a sold-out Volksparkstadion which has already created anticipation for next week’s fixture.
Yet again, it was a special night of football for Robert Glatzel. The striker put in a brilliant performance under the lights at the Volksparkstadion in HSV’s first game of the season against Schalke 04, contributing two goals and one assist in a 5-3 win. The 29-year-old followed this up with further goals in his next two games against Karlsruher SC, as well as in the DFB-Pokal against Rot-Weiss Essen, and was yet again one of the key men for the ‘Rothosen’ in their second home game of the season against Hertha BSC. He was once again right in the middle of the action during an exciting night of football. It initially looked as if he had put HSV ahead, but the goal was ruled out due to Jonas Meffert standing in an offside position in the build-up. A short time later, he was fouled by fellow teammate Toni Leistner and won a penalty, but once again this was overturned, this time due to a handball in the lead up from Laszlo Benes.

“It was important that in this phase of the game after those setbacks that we didn’t lose our heads, but managed to keep calm and continued to play our intense style of play,” explained the 29-year-old after yet another game where he had left his mark. He helped make the breakthrough with a brilliant assist for Bakery Jatta to put HSV into a well-deserved lead after 38 minutes and later scored his fourth league goal of the season to put the icing on the cake of another strong performance from the ‘Rothosen’.
“We played really well as a team, it was a completely deserved win,” said Glatzel, who already has four goals and three assists after three matchdays this season. Seven goal contributions in just three games – an absolutely brilliant start which Glatzel wants to build on in the upcoming weeks. The first chance to do this will be against Hannover 96, a team that Glatzel has already proven to have success against, with three goals and two assists in his previous four games for HSV against them. It’s also a good thing that the ‘Nordduell’ on matchday 4 will be taking place on Sunday evening at 20:30 CEST because Robert Glatzel is a man who knows all about special nights under the floodlights.
