Glatzel: "It's worth fighting for it again".
In a media round on the second day of training camp, Robert Glatzel spoke about the reasons for his HSV stay, the stresses and strains in Styria and the improved starting position ahead of the new season.
In his first HSV season (2021/22), Robert Glatzel played in all 41 matches, was directly involved in 31 goals (27 goals, four assists) and also did a lot of valuable work against the ball. Accordingly, the 28-year-old was in demand on the transfer market after the season, which makes his clear decision in favour of HSV all the more remarkable. Despite higher-class offers, "Bobby" extended his contract until the summer of 2025 and thus set a clear signal for the future. Glatzel is also one of the important pillars in the summer training camp that has just begun in Styria and proves his value in every training session. In a media round, the centre forward now spoke for the first time today (Sunday noon, 26 June) about the eventful time after the end of the season and his future ambitions with HSV.
Robert Glatzel spoke in detail about...
... a possible departure from HSV before the contract extension: "After the end of the season, I already thought about how things would go for me in terms of sport and listened to various things. But that's exactly what I did with Jonas Boldt. Then, on holiday, I decided with my family that there were many more reasons for staying with HSV. The overall situation with the trust in the coach, the chance of promotion, the city and the family's sense of well-being were of primary importance. For all that, it's simply worth fighting again to get promoted to the Bundesliga. That would be worth much more with HSV than with any other club.
... the starting position before the coming season: I see it very positively, because I've been here for a year now. At the beginning of the last series, I noticed that I needed some time. Now I know the league, the teammates and the coaching team, so I simply have more experience now and an overall advantage. That's why I also think I can confirm my performances. In any case, the goal is to continue where I left off last season.
... the training camp procedures: The workload is enormous, but that's part of it, that's what being a professional is all about. You don't usually plan a big programme for the evening because the focus is on training. It's more like taking care of your body and preparing for the next session, so there's little time for films or other things. We meet more to talk. Or play table tennis. Seven days at full throttle is the focus.
