Gui Ramos: No time to lose
New signing Guilherme Ramos was in high spirits in his first days as a HSV player and wants to get into the action as soon as possible. He is driven on by the new style of play.
Anyone who sees Guilherme Ramos during his first days at HSV will notice that the new signing from Bielefeld always has a smile on his face. The Portuguese player, who left his home country for the first time in 2021 to join Arminia, has quickly connected with his new teammates with his positive attitude. This is also clear in the first few days at the training camp in Kitzbühel: both on and off the pitch, the 25-year-old is always involved in the conversations, discussing ideas and giving the impression that he wants to make the next step at his new club. “I am happy to be here with the team now. We have lots of good players. There has been a great environment at HSV in the first few days and I feel that I can develop really well here,” said the new signing in an interview on Friday at the team hotel “Kitzhof.”
Since his arrival, the central defender has especially connected with the coaching team in order to learn and internalise the new style of play as quickly as possible. “HSV is a great club that plays in a special way. This philosophy is new to me and it is very interesting,” said Ramos, who everyone just calls “Gui.” He has already mastered the first part of this process. “In theory, I already understand everything because I have talked a lot about it with the coaching team. Now it’s a matter of putting the theory into practice on the pitch and getting more and more familiar with the details,” explained the number 13, who also has this number tattooed on his ring finger. Ramos has no time to lose and is leaving nothing to chance. For example, during the friendly match at the training camp in Austria against Viktoria Pilsen, the new signing was speaking to match analysts and the injured captain Sebastian Schonlau on the sidelines about the defensive tactics.

Shoulder injury at Bielefeld – Pepe a role model
The Portuguese player hasn’t yet been able to play as a shoulder injury during his time at Bielefeld is currently still preventing him from being taking part in the friendlies. But apart from the challenges, the new signing is already very involved and his workload will increase more and more with a view to the start of the season at the end of the month. “My injury is getting better all the time. It’s not perfect yet, of course, but I’m trying to come back step by step. I mostly need to regain more strength and stability in my shoulder in order to be ready for the challenges and the toughness of the competition,” said Ramos, giving an insight into the roadmap leading up to his debut. Along the way, however, he won’t take any risks. “We definitely don’t want to risk me coming back too early and aggravating the injury. I fully trust the expertise of the doctors and physiotherapists.”
Until then, the 6’3’’ man will use every training session and opportunity off the pitch to keep integrating into the new team and to learn the style of play. In doing so, thinking about his role model, a three-time UEFA Champions League winner, can also be helpful. “Pepe is my role model because he is also Portuguese. He is already 40 years old and still performing at the highest level. That’s impressive,” admitted Ramos, not forgetting to smile, as he always has done in his first days at the club.
