City of Hamburg prohibits events with more than 1,000 visitors

The Hamburg health authorities will shortly publish a general ruling, detailing that events with more than 1,000 visitors will not be allowed to take place until the 30th April due to the coronavirus outbreak. What that means for the upcoming home game against Arminia Bielefeld on the 21st March will be communicated in the coming week.

The city of Hamburg has reached a decision on large-scale events and the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on such gatherings. The health authorities in Hamburg heeded the recommendation of the crisis meeting of the federal government and agreed on Wednesday (11th March) to prohibit any events with more than 1,000 visitors until the 30th April.

The Rothosen’s home game against Arminia Bielefeld on 21st March is affected by the decision, with 55,500 tickets having already been sold for the top-of-the-table clash. How the authorities’ decision will affect the Bielefeld game and the following match-ups (including the away game in Stuttgart) is yet to be seen, and will be communicated by HSV as soon as the information becomes available. How the rest of the season will unfold will become clearer after all DFL clubs gather for a crisis meeting next Monday in Frankfurt.

If the game against Bielefeld has to take place behind closed doors, then fans who have bought tickets to the game will receive a full refund. HSV will be in direct contact with fans who have bought tickets regarding the refund procedure.
