HSV defeat Elstorf 8-1 in friendly
Glatzel netted a hat-trick and Königsdörffer bagged a brace, with new arrival Philippe (11’), Sahiti (18’) and youngster Reimers (80’) also scoring for the Rothosen.
HSV got off to a perfect start in their first pre-season match ahead of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. On Saturday, 5th July, the Rothosen ran out as 8-1 winners over Bezirksliga side TSV Elstorf. Robert Glatzel (56’, 67’, 83’), Ransford Königsdörffer (4’, 41’), new arrival Rayan Philippe, Emir Sahiti and home-grown talent Moritz Riemers (80’) all got their names on the scoresheet in front of the 3,200 spectators at the Sportzentrum Schützenstraße in Neu Wulmstorf.
HSV travelled to take on TSV Elstorf in their first fixture of pre-season to mark the hosts’ 100th anniversary. The club call the Harburg borough of Hamburg home, and the Rothosen coming to play against Elstorf was cause for further celebration. The game had been sold out for weeks in advance. The whole community of Elstorf, which numbers around 3,000 in total, were on their feet to see the newly promoted Bundesliga side in action and root for their local team. Shortly before kick-off, Merlin Polzin signed the village’s golden book as mayor Tobias Handtke stood by his side.

Philippe scores on debut
HSV’s head coach used the occasion to give playing time to all currently available members of the squad, as well as a handful of youth academy players. Summer signings Jordan Torunarigha, Nicolai Remberg, Rayan Philippe and Fernando Dickes, in addition to February arrival Aboubaka Soumahoro, all celebrated their debuts for the Rothosen. They took to the pitch in HSV’s brand-new home kit for the upcoming season, which was released yesterday and is available now in the online shop.
In the fourth minute, Ransford Königsdörffer netted the Rothosen’s first goal of pre-season. He only had to apply the finishing touch after great work by Philippe. Soon after, the new signing from Braunschweig slotted home his first goal for the Rothosen (11’). The Frenchman then provided another assist for Königsdörffer, who headed in a fourth in the 41st minute. The recently-arrived attacker proved that he can help HSV as both a goalscorer and creator. Sahiti had earlier scored the third goal when he was in the right place at the right time to tap home after Königsdörffer struck the crossbar. The Rothosen’s attacking players were very lively in general. Everyone played their part, including goalscorers Königsdörffer, Philippe and Sahiti, as well as Dompe, who started in his familiar position on the left.

A hat-trick for Glatzel
Polzin changed all eleven of his players at half time. Robert Glatzel, HSV’s most prolific goalscorer of the past few years, arrived on the pitch and immediately showed that he is hungry to add even more to his total next season. Glatzel made it 5-0 (56’), then 6-1 (67’), and completed his hat-trick with his side’s eighth goal from the penalty spot (83’). Elstorf, meanwhile, found the net themselves from a wonderful free kick. Jonah Genterczewsky hammered the ball into the back of the net from around 25 yards out, leaving debutant goalkeeper Dickes with no chance.
Another substitute, youngster Moritz Reimers, was involved in the last two goals. The 18-year-old, who came on for the second half alongside fellow academy products Rath, Agyekum, Yalcinkaya and Megeed, scored the seventh himself (80’). Three minutes later, the right winger won a penalty which was calmly converted by the experienced Glatzel. It ended in a deserved 8-1 win for HSV, whose victory saw them take home the “buxtrade” trophy for the second year running. At the final whistle, however, it was the children and teenagers in attendance who were the most excited. They got to see the HSV players up close, as the squad signed autographs and took selfies. It was a successful start all round to pre-season, as the Rothosen prepare for their return to the Bundesliga.
