"It was collectively not enough"
To kick off the year 2022, HSV drew 1-1 with SG Dynamo Dresden. The result was a fair division of points, but the Rothosen were not happy with it after the game. Quotes from the game.
Different emotions on Friday evening in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium: While the Dresdeners threw their hands up in the air at the final whistle, the Hamburgers remained behind with their posture lowered. For the tenth time this season, Walter's charges had to settle for a draw. However, the 1-1 draw to kick off 2022 can be classified as fair. In the first half, HSV took a somewhat surprising lead through Robert Glatzel (37th) against an aggressive home side and only really found their game after the break. But this time, the SGD struck during the opponent's good phase and equalised through Daferner (61st), which was also the final score of 1-1. After the game, the SGD players answered questions and complained about the result as well as their own performance.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: We are disappointed with the result and the way we played today. We wanted to be aggressive and go into the game with high intensity. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to do that today. We know that we have done better this season, so we have to keep working on ourselves. We had our actions, but we lost too many balls in the transition. Our opponents pressed us well, and we sometimes managed to play courageously out of the box, but sometimes not. It wasn't a good game, but we don't have much time to think about it now. We have the next task ahead of us on Tuesday in Cologne. We want to show what we are capable of there.
Tim Walter: We didn't put enough on the pitch today. We had our situations, but we played the counterattacks badly, didn't make it 2:0 and instead conceded the 1:1. Collectively, it was too little. Dresden tried to squeeze us in behind and we countered well. We can't always solve everything by playing, but we keep trying and that's exactly our way. We have to find a way to resolve these situations. As long as we do that, there will always be situations that we can't solve. That was the case today in the opening phase, but otherwise we had our opportunities, which we can play out more cleverly. On Tuesday, a completely different game awaits us. It's a do-or-die game. We definitely want to progress.
Alexander Schmidt: Great praise and respect to my team - they gave everything today and showed great passion. You could tell that the few spectators were also impressed. The boys simply did a good job.
