"It was pure will today"
Hamburger SV record a well deserved 2-1 victory in the Stadtderby against FC St. Pauli. The voices from the Rothosen were correspondingly enthusiastic after the game.
"Derbysieger, derbysieger, derbysieger!" rang out through the Volksparkstadion - and the HSV team was right in the middle of it, having won the 107th city derby against FC St. Pauli 2-1 (0:1). The reward for a thoroughly dominant and nervy performance. After the visitors had taken a flattering lead through Burgstaller (30th), the Rothosen kept their nerve and courage and turned the game around with goals from Sebastian Schonlau (58th) and Bakery Jatta (70th) to win 2-1. The Rothosen were correspondingly happy after the game and once again emphasised the team spirit.
Sebastian Schonlau:"It is a well-deserved victory. We start the game really well, have huge goals and are unlucky to concede one. But you could see that it didn't knock us down. We know our strengths and said at half-time that we would take our chances. It's nice that we were rewarded and that we were able to give something back to the fans. You could tell from the start who wanted to win this game: us! This is our home! We made a clear statement that this game belongs only to us. We're enjoying this evening now, a derby win is always special and releases new energy.
"You could tell from the beginning who wants to win this game: us!"
Jonas Meffert: It was an incredibly exhausting game, an exhausting week. That's why in the final phase today it was just pure will, and that from the whole team. But the victory is totally deserved, because in the first half alone we had so many chances and suddenly we are 0:1 behind. But the way we came back was just awesome! As a team, we really wanted to pull ourselves out of it, and that's what we set out to do at half-time and put everything into it. It was so much fun today, it's just a shame that not all the fans were able to be at this game, then it would have been an incredible evening. But even so, it was a really great experience.
Ludovit Reis:It was an incredibly exhausting game, an exhausting week. That's why in the final phase today it was just pure will, and that from the whole team. "It just feels really good to have won this derby"
Tim Walter: We started the game very well, had some chances to score, but didn't reward ourselves for it. Especially at the beginning, we had some counterattacking situations when we won the ball very well, but we played badly. We have to work on that. The goal we conceded was a bit unexpected. Nevertheless, we only shook ourselves for a moment and had a few more chances before the break. It's important that we don't let ourselves go crazy. But you could see that the boys stayed with themselves. That's what we did. Bascho after the corner with an effort of will and Baka after a great pass from Sonny turned it around. In the final phase, it got tight again because St. Pauli also hit a lot of long balls, but my boys defended it all away well. We are happy for our fans. From my point of view, we deserved to win.
Timo Schultz: After we were allowed to be successful more often in the last games and were able to claim the city championship for ourselves, we have to congratulate HSV today for an overall deserved victory. We had too little access, allowed too many chances and did not get control of the game despite the lead. In the second half, we couldn't defend everything and that's how we conceded the two goals. It was only after we went behind that we really put our hearts into it, became more courageous and also built up more pressure, but we couldn't take advantage of our chances in the final phase. We must not complain about this defeat.
