"It's all about doing our homework".
In the press conference before the last home game of the regular season against SpVgg Greuther Fürth, HSV coach Tim Walter spoke about the starting situation in the promotion race, the spectacle at home games and the team's unity.
It's crunch time in the 2nd division: Hamburger SV will host SpVgg Greuther Fürth (live on HSVnetradio from 8.15 pm) on Saturday evening in the 33rd matchday, aiming to secure the current third place in the relegation play-off places and also to get further involved in the race for the two direct promotion places. In order to achieve this in the best possible way, a win against the cloverleaf is a must, regardless of the results of the competition. Head coach Tim Walter and his men are accordingly focused on themselves as they approach the last home game of the regular season. The 47-year-old football coach underlined this at today's press conference and talked about...
... the starting situation in the promotion race: We weren't in this situation in the pre-season. It's about doing our homework. We are well advised to win our games. The 2nd Division is not a foregone conclusion. What once was doesn't matter now. Whether spring flutter or final flutter - it's simply a difficult league. If we push our game through and invest everything together with the club and fans, then we will also win the game at the weekend and keep the three points with us. Everything else we can't influence. It would be nice if the competition stumbles, but the only thing we can do is to be ready, if a misstep happens, to take advantage of it.
"The fans and spectators enjoy this style of play"
... the spectacle factor at home games: There's a reason why 57,000 spectators always come to the stadium. They don't come because we play ponderously or because we put ourselves in the back, but because we define ourselves by scoring goals. Our goal tally shows that. At the same time, we have allowed a bit too much in recent weeks. In general, the fans and spectators enjoy this style of play. They also want us to always give everything and invest. That is our task. We want to take the spectators with us.
... the reasons for the team's unity: You have to be authentic to create such an atmosphere. You have to be who you are. If you pretend to be yourself, the players will sense that. My basic credo is that the person is in the foreground. I try to be open and honest with the boys every day. They pay me back with good performances. We have a great community, the boys are great with each other. At the same time, they give everything they've got on the training field. Sometimes it gets louder and harder. In the end, they do it together. That is always the decisive factor.
