HSV new signing Sander Tangvik: “The move was a no-brainer”
In his first interview for HSV, Sander Tangvik spoke about his move to Hamburg, the competition between the posts and a possible place in Norway’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Sander Tangvik is all smiles when he thinks back on his first two weeks at Hamburger SV. The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who joined the club during the winter transfer window, experienced the draws in the derby away at FC St. Pauli (0-0) and against FC Bayern (2-2) from the bench. Even though the 1.93m tall Norwegian, who arrived from Rosenborg, has yet to make his debut, he has been thoroughly impressed by his early days in Hamburg, as he explained during while chatting to the media. Among other things, he spoke about…
…his decision to join HSV: When I heard that HSV were interested in me, my eyes lit up. (laughs) Of course I already knew HSV – it’s a big club with a lot of tradition. On top of that, the Bundesliga is a strong league. The move was a no-brainer and the right step for me.
…his first weeks in Hamburg: I’ve only had positive impressions so far. There was a lot going on because it’s my first time abroad. Everything is new, but the start has been really good. Of course I miss my family, but my parents have already visited me and my girlfriend is moving over at the weekend. My friends will definitely come and visit regularly too.
…the 2-2 draw against Bayern: It was crazy! The jubilation after the final whistle was incredible. I definitely wasn’t being lied to when everyone told me beforehand that the atmosphere at the Volksparkstadion is unbelievable. (laughs) It was great to experience the fans properly for the first time and really enjoy that atmosphere.

…the competition in goal at HSV: I’m a big fan of our goalkeeping group here. We push each other and train really well together. Of course I want to play, like everyone does, but ‘Ferro’ (Daniel Heuer Fernandes) has been at the club for a long time and is a big personality. He’s been outstanding in the games that I’ve been here for. Either way, I’ll give everything and support the team.
…playing out from the back: At Rosenborg, I was already heavily involved in the build-up. I really like having the ball at my feet, it suits me. When I was younger, I actually played as a striker.
…his personal goals: I want to stay at HSV for as long as possible. I’ve only been here for two weeks, but I already like it a lot. For now, though, there’s plenty to do: I need to settle in, get to know the team and sort out all the things off the pitch.
…his footballing role model: I always really liked Pepe Reina. He played for Liverpool, and my dad is a fan of that club. When I was younger, we watched the matches together – a lot of them. (laughs) But there are many other great goalkeepers I’ve followed as well.
…his dream of going to the World Cup with Norway: We have a lot of good goalkeepers in Norway, all competing for places in the squad. The World Cup is something I’d love to be part of. I was involved in the national team camp in November and came away with a really positive feeling.
