"!Nie Wieder" - Never Again!

On the occasion of the 18th Remembrance Day in German football, Hamburger Sport-Verein commemorates all those who were persecuted and murdered by the National Socialists.

Exactly 77 years ago today, on 27 January 1945, the Soviet army liberated the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. From 1940 to 1945, around one million people were murdered there by the National Socialists.

"It happened, and consequently it can happen again: Therein lies the core of what we have to say." –Primo Levi, Italian writer and Auschwitz survivor (1919-1987).

"!NieWieder" is the name of the initiative for Holocaust Remembrance Day in German football and at the same time contains the powerful message of raising awareness of the importance of the culture of remembrance and understanding it as a responsibility of us all. This year's commemoration focuses on all the victims who were persecuted and murdered by the National Socialists because of their physical, mental or psychological disabilities. HSV endorses the campaign's leitmotif and says emphatically: "Every person counts - no matter on which pitch! Raute is diversity.

Around 27 January, HSV will set an example against hatred, racism and misanthropy with various actions as part of the Day of Remembrance.

The podcast episode of the HSV Matrix produced for this occasion deals with the topic of euthanasia: before 1933 - between 1933 and 1945 - and in the FRG. Guests are Dr Karola S. Rudnick (Euthanasia Memorial Lüneburg), Fanny Boyn (fan representative at HSV) and Freddy Spindler (HSV fan). An internal event on the topic of "HSV under National Socialism" will be offered for HSV employees. In the Hamburger Weg Classroom of the HSV Foundation, a workshop on the same topic has taken place on the past two days in cooperation with the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial, which will conclude today with a tour of the Grindelviertel.

HSV fans have the opportunity to lay a wreath or a flower arrangement at the memorial plaque at the Volksparkstadion until 2.30 p.m. today, 27 January 2022.
