"Our reaction was incredible!"
In a spectacular 2. Bundesliga match, HSV won 4-2 at SSV Jahn Regensburg thanks to two last minute goals. Accordingly, the HSV players expressed their emotions after the final whistle
What a crazy football match at the Jahnstadion in Regensburg: After Muheim (23rd) and Suhonen (66th) had led the Hamburg team to victory with some impressive goals from distance, Albers (88th) equalised the score 2:2 from the spot after a controversial penalty whistle. Jahn celebrated the late lucky punch, but it did not send HSV packing. On the contrary: HSV struck back through Vagnoman (90th) and in the injury time got a penalty in the person of Kittel. Kinsombi (90th +6) put it under the crossbar into the goal and gave the highly emotional final phase a memorable ending. No wonder that the HSV professionals were still full of emotion after the final whistle. The comments on the game.
Sebastian Schonlau: We've been characterised throughout the season by the fact that we never give up and always keep going, no matter what setbacks we encounter. A huge compliment to the team, because we hurt ourselves a little bit today, but the fact that we came back like this is just awesome! We are happy that we won in Regensburg, because that was hard work and we had a lot to do. The win today is really good, we'll take the three points with us and now look ahead to the next game in Ingolstadt.
Miro Muheim: The goal we conceded to make it 2-2 was very annoying. Even before that, we let ourselves get pushed back too much. But our reaction was incredible. Once again, we showed team spirit and will. That shows what a great team we are. We never gave up and kept fighting. That's been our hallmark all season. When I scored my goal, I actually felt straight away that the ball was going to hit the ground like a ray. That's an incredible feeling when you see the ball hit the ground.
""The fans went crazy, it was like a home game - just awesome!"
Jonas Meffert: When I was substituted at the end, I couldn't really look at it from the bench. And suddenly the referee whistles a penalty. I can't describe how angry I got. But we've seen things go against us more often this season. At 3:2, we all stormed onto the pitch. The fans went crazy, it was like a home game - simply awesome! Despite all the emotions, you have to say that Regensburg played very well and we were very lucky at the beginning. But we came out of that low. That is also part of our development.
Tim Walter: The longer the game went on, the more we accepted it. After half-time, we conceded an unfortunate goal, but these things happen and we were able to overcome that together. The way my team tried to win until the end is worthy of all honour. Something is building up in this young team and we want to continue on this path.
Mersad Selimbegovic: We have to lead 2:0 after a quarter of an hour today, then it will be a completely different game. But HSV took the lead with their first shot on goal - a Sunday shot on Saturday. After that, we didn't allow much, deserved to equalise and then conceded the next beautiful goal from distance. That was bitter, but we came back again and deserved to equalise. What happened next was just unfortunate from our point of view. But we can be proud of ourselves, because we were on a par with HSV.
