Rothosen see plenty of international minutes and success
The first few fixtures of this international break are now over, and for those HSV players representing their nations, five of seven games ended in victory this week.
We’re halfway through the first international break of the 2025/26 season. Seven of the eight HSV players called up to represent their national sides have already seen some minutes in the games played thus far. Thursday’s fixtures (4th September) saw Warmed Omari (Comoros), Giorgi Gocholeishvili (Georgia), Aboubaka Soumahoro (France U20s) and Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit (Norway U19s) all running out for their nations. Omari played the full game for Comoros in a 3-0 loss to Mali in a World Cup qualifier, while teammate Soumahoro also saw 90 minutes in a 2-0 friendly win over Spain. Rössing-Lelesiit started in Norway’s friendly against Sweden, which ended in a 4-2 victory for the youngster’s side. Gocholeishvili was brought on as a substitute in Georgia’s World Cup qualifier loss, which finished 3-2 to opponents Türkiye.
On Friday (5th September), it was the turn of Daniel Peretz (Israel), Miro Muheim (Switzerland) and Fabio Balde (Portugal U21s) to run out for their national teams, with all three helping their sides secure victories. Both Peretz and Muheim were involved in World Cup qualifying games, and each left the field with a 4-0 victory in the bag. The former kept a clean sheet as Israel beat Moldova away from home, while the latter came on as a second-half substitute as Switzerland successfully maintained their 4-0 lead when hosting Kosovo. Winger Balde was also able to celebrate his debut at U21 level, after being brought on for Portugal as the side triumphed 5-0 against Azerbaijan in an U21 EUROs qualifying match.
All the Rothosen mentioned will be looking forward to another international fixture in the coming days, before club football returns next weekend. Towards the end of this break, Luka Vuskovic will hope to become the eighth HSV player to represent his nation this month, as Croatia U21s take on Türkiye in an U21 EUROs qualifier on Tuesday (9th September).
