Sonny Kittel Stays at HSV

A possible transfer to the USA does not materialise. Instead the 29 year old joins team training and goes again with the HSV.

Sonny Kittel will continue to wear the HSV jersey in the future. The 29-year-old's understandable idea of moving to the US Major League Soccer (MLS) - in view of his personal prospects - was rejected for various reasons. As a result, the midfielder, who has been directly involved in 63 goals (30 goals, 33 assists) in 104 HSV matches since 2019/20, will continue to be available to the Rothosen in the coming season and occupy a position in the offensive area.

As a possible transfer of the technician can now be definitively ruled out, Kittel, who still has a contract at HSV valid until the summer of 2023, will start his summer preparations today (Wednesday, 22 June). "We happily accept the turnaround around the possible transfer, as we never wanted to proactively give Sonny away anyway. With his qualities, he can make a decisive contribution to achieving our goals in the coming season, which is why we are very motivated to continue our cooperation on both sides," says board member Jonas Boldt, who, like coach Tim Walter, expressly welcomes the retention of the key player. Sonny Kittel, for his part, explains: "After the ups and downs of the past few days, I'm glad that a final decision has been made, which creates planning security for everyone. My focus is now on the future and I'm looking forward to being back on the pitch with the boys.
