"Two Different Halves"
The HSV were disappointed with the poor first half, but also praised the improved performance in the second half. The Voice's from the Game.
HSV experienced two completely different halves in the 1-1 draw at Sandhausen on Saturday (19 February). In the first half, the Rothosen were unable to implement their usual offensive play at all, with very few exceptions. The hosts were simply more organised and aggressive in this phase and deservedly took a 1-0 lead through a goal by Pascal Testroet (15th). The 2:0 by Janik Bachmann, which was rightly disallowed, kept the Walter team in the game, which then showed a completely different face in the second half and came to the deserved equaliser through Sonny Kittel (59th). The fact that it was not enough to win the game was a bit fortunate for the home side, but not undeserved because of the first 45 minutes. That was also the view of the HSV.
Sebastian Schonlau: "In the first half we were simply not good, that has to be said quite clearly, and in the end that cost us our heads and the victory. There would have been more in it if we had acted from the beginning like we did in the second half. We had the necessary intensity in the game, we had our rotations in the positional play, but: We just missed the first half, and then it becomes difficult to win games in this league. That's why we have to live with the one point today.
Jonas Meffert: We didn't get into the game at all in the first half, that was just bad, even if the willingness was there. After half-time we did better, had more drive in the game and also good chances. We could have even won in the end, but because of the two different halves, the 1-1 is unfortunately okay. We have only ourselves to blame, because we simply have to manage to deliver our performance over the full 90 minutes.
"The fact that we came back into this game like that is decisive for me"
Tim Walter: We saw two different halves today. In the first half, we weren't brave enough and didn't get our counter-pressing in. We analysed that in the break, kept a cool head and made the right adjustments. So we became stronger in the second half and were rewarded, at least with a goal and a point, even though we had hoped for more. It's perfectly normal to have a bad half, but the fact that we came back in this game is important and decisive for me - and the most important thing we learned from today's game. We'll take the one point with us and keep working.
Alois Schwartz: We can live well with the 1-1 draw and the point, even if we could have done better in the first half, because we started the game very well and could even have led 2-0 with a bit of luck. But HSV managed to turn the game around completely in the second half and we had to chase a lot. But in the end we defended well and deserved to keep the one point here in Sandhausen.
