Walter anniversary becomes a series hit
With the 3:2 victory, HSV ended a 60-year drought in Kiel and set another record with their seventh away win in a row.
"Stories that only football writes" - that was the storyboard before HSV's away match at Holstein Kiel. Tim Walter had to play his 50th competitive match as coach of the Reds at the club where he himself was in charge on the touchline in the 2018/19 season and where he infuriated Hamburg in both games with painful defeats (0:3 and 1:3). And of all things, it was the last game at the Kieler Föhrde last season that troubled HSV the most in the aftermath. On the 29th matchday, they lost 1-0 in a very unfortunate defeat and subsequently faced strong criticism. But it was also the starting signal for a winning streak that has now reached its climax for the time being. The storyboard of last night's game in the sold-out Holstein Stadium with 15,034 spectators had it all. Or to put it another way: You couldn't have imagined it any better.
With the 3:2 victory, HSV won their seventh league match in a row and set the record in the 2nd division set by Arminia Bielefeld in 2019. Across all competitions (including the cup and relegation), it was even the ninth away win in a row. In German professional football, only Bayern Munich is ahead of the Hamburg team. The record-breaking champions even won twelve times in a row on foreign soil in their 2019/20 triple season. There is still a long way to go. That also became clear in the 90 minutes at Kieler Sportvereinigung. The game had several very different sections and dramatic twists and turns.

Glatzel: Goal 32 in 50th game
Initially, the home side clearly dominated the game and did not seek their salvation in a compact defence as in the previous season, but attacked HSV very early and thus created a handful of high-calibre chances in the opening phase. It was only thanks to the strong saves of Daniel Heuer Fernandes that they did not have to chase a deficit. "Holstein came up with a different plan this time than last time and got into the game well because we were too inconsistent. We were not good in the first 20 minutes," Tim Walter also found in the press conference afterwards. And goal scorer Glatzel added: "We have to stop such initial phases, otherwise it will blow up in our faces at some point."
But the tide turned as the game wore on, and it was Glatzel himself who showed the Kielers how to consistently deal with their chances. After a perfect cross from Jean-Luc Dompe, the top scorer nodded in the 38th minute to take the lead. It was Glatzel's 32nd goal in 50 games for HSV. With this, he also gilded his jubilee, which was heading for a sovereign performance after an increase in performance in the second half and further goals by Moritz Heyer (69th) and Ludovit Reis (85th). But in the second division, you don't get anything for free if you slacken off just a little or if an unfortunate scene causes the pendulum to swing, as the Rothosen professionals experienced in injury time.

First league win in 60 years
Just as everyone was waiting for the final whistle, Heyer scored for the second time that evening (90.+2). This time, however, he scored into his own net with an unfortunate deflection. And so the tireless Sturgeons sensed their chance and scored through substitute Finn Bartels just one turn of the clock later to tie the game (90.+3). The final seconds became a nail-biter, which annoyed Sebastian Schonlau to no end. "What happened at the end of the game was far too wild and should not have happened like that," said the captain.
And so the first success at Holstein Kiel in the 2nd division and the first league win in 60 years ended like the last one in the Oberliga Nord on 24.11.1962- with 3:2. For the coaching team maybe even a good storyboard, because: The three points can no longer be taken away from HSV, but there are enough starting points to do things better and thus to start as many more stories as possible in the end. History that only football writes.
