"We have it in our own hands now".
After the 2-1 home victory in the northern duel against Hannover 96, HSV can achieve promotion on its own. Top scorer Robert Glatzel spoke about the current situation the day after.
He was once again the celebrated man: Robert Glatzel scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season in the 2-1 home win over Hannover 96 on Saturday (7 May), but passed on the flowers many times over when he answered journalists' questions at the Volkspark on Sunday: To the fans, who had pushed the team in impressive style and carried them to victory; to Bakery Jatta, who had laid on both goals for him in exemplary fashion; and to the entire team, which had impressively continued the "everyone has written us off and we can only win now" idea, as "Bobby" Glatzel calls the recent approach, and clinched the fourth three-goal win in a row in the northern duel. Thus, in this "final match, which we absolutely wanted and had to win", the foundation was laid for things to get really exciting on the last match day in the guest game at Hansa Rostock. "There we want to win again with all our might, otherwise everything up to here was worth nothing," said the most successful goal scorer of the Rothosen, who thus simultaneously looked back and forward and assessed the HSV situation. Robert Glatzel spoke about...
...the home win against Hannover 96: "In the meantime, we've let yesterday's experiences sink in and we've come down a bit, but the joy is still there, of course. It was a close game, just like almost all games in this 2nd division are close games. There wasn't much at stake for Hannover, but they gave everything. But we didn't allow much and fortunately I was able to use two outstanding assists from Baka in front, which we practice over and over again in training. Together with the spectators, we then defended the deserved home victory. What the fans delivered yesterday was pure goose bumps and absolutely worthy of the first league.
„It's absolutely clear that we want to be promoted now.“
... the 34th matchday at Hansa Rostock: "Of course we want to take the euphoria with us, but we also clearly want to stay with ourselves. That's what made us strong in the last few weeks, that we didn't hang our heads after two games we didn't win and, conversely, didn't go crazy after two victories. Therefore: Stay focused, stay professional, prepare optimally and then play our game. That will be hard enough, because Rostock will be an unpleasant opponent, they won't let up, just like Hannover yesterday. We're capable of breaking down that resistance, but we'll need full energy and a full two-man battle to win in Rostock.
...the fight for promotion: We're not going to start dreaming now. First do the job, first concentrate fully on Rostock, then we'll see. But one thing is clear: We now have it in our own hands to finish third and qualify for the relegation. There, too, it would be up to us how it turns out, we don't have to look at anyone else. It's all about us. And because we have it in our own hands now, it's also logical that we want to grab it now and get promoted, that's absolutely clear. HSV is simply a Bundesliga team, we don't need to talk about it. You could feel the enthusiasm and the longing of the people in the stadium yesterday. In order to achieve this great common goal, we will give everything as a team and as a club.
