After a disappointing week with three points from as many games (1:2 against Paderborn, 4:0 against Aue and 0:1 in Kiel), Hamburger SV welcomes Karlsruher SC to the Volksparkstadion on Saturday for the top match of the 30th Zweitliga matchday (live on HSVnetradio from 8.15pm). In the run-up to this match, HSV coach Tim Walter spoke in a digital press conference on Thursday afternoon about the current situation surrounding the Rothosen and gave some explanations as to why the desired results could not be achieved recently.
Among other things, the 46-year-old spoke about...
... the personnel situation: "Sonny Kittel will return to training tomorrow. He should be able to play on Saturday. Maximilian Rohr and Elijah Krahn are both out with minor muscle fibre tears. Apart from that, only Ludovit Reis is missing due to his yellow suspension.
... the opponents from Karlsruhe: Nothing will surprise us: Either they'll be deep or they'll block kicks and try to press us in certain situations. Maybe the KSC is still a little bit shaken up from the cup defeat. Then it's good for us if the opponent plays along. But we also have our solutions against deep opponents. But we have to finish and that's what we have to do at the weekend. We need a good counter-attacking defence.
"It's about taking the lead again. That is our next goal. Then we usually won the games as well.."
... Recent games: The games were all somewhat the same: the opponents were very defensive and we had to develop solutions against them. We had and have these solutions, but it's also about punching and finishing in front of goal. We tried to score goals in different ways against Paderborn, Aue and Kiel - be it via a break through on the flank, via a chip ball into the back of the penalty area, a ball in front of the chain or via a long-range shot. We have to be more efficient and consistent in these things. Conversely, our opponents are currently making a lot out of very few opportunities. As a result, we often fall behind and that does something to our heads. It's about taking the lead again. That is our next goal. Then we usually won the games.
... the development of the team: We have the most possession, the highest passing accuracy, create the second most chances and have the fourth most shots on goal. So, in fact, there is a development. As I said, we want and need more efficiency in front of goal! It's about conviction and consistency. Our players are young and capable of development. We are very enthusiastic about the development in defence, as we allow the fewest major chances and concede the fewest goals. Now it's a matter of refining the offensive game. You can't do that in half a year, you just need a bit more time for that.
