"We have to take this one point with us"
The goal was a three-pointer, but after a highly intense match, HSV's professionals once again had to settle for a point with a 1-1 draw at Karlsruher SC. Quotes from the game.
After 93 intense minutes at BBBank Wildpark, Hamburger SV could not get beyond a 1-1 draw against Karlsruher SC on Saturday (6 November). For Walter's team, it was already the eighth draw in the 13th matchday of 2.Liga match of the current season, which left the Hamburg players with mixed feelings. Of course, the Red Shorts were desperate to take the three points back to Hamburg, but had to be satisfied with the draw after the game against a strong Karlsruhe side and acknowledge that more than this point was not possible in the end, especially as KSC were unlucky with a shot against the post in the final phase. Quotes from the game.
Sebastian Schonlau: It was not an easy game today. The Karlsruher gave us a lot of tasks, they played a lot of long and high balls and were dangerous that way. You can't always defend Philipp Hofmann, we saw that when we conceded the goal, even though this goal is incredibly annoying for me as someone who was directly involved. All in all, there was nothing more we could have done today and in the end - as much as these draws make us anything but happy - we have to take the 1-1 and this one point with us.
Jonas Meffert: KSC did very well today, the point for us was almost a bit lucky. We took the lead, but KSC were very strong, good in the duels and didn't make it easy for us. In the end, we only got the one point, which of course disappoints us. You could see that in the circle afterwards, no one was happy. We wanted to get closer to the top places with a win, but we didn't succeed. But we'll keep going and try again after the international break.
"All in all, this draw is okay"Tim Walter
Tim Walter: Both teams played a very committed game, but it was a little bit scrappy at times. I think that was exactly the goal of Karlsruhe, who kept playing long balls and going for second balls. Unfortunately, we couldn't play our game the way we would have liked to. We did manage to score the opening goal, but KSC also played their goal very well. Otherwise, we defended well and had our chances up front. We have to make better use of them, be more present in the penalty area and want to score more goals. But all in all, this draw is okay and I think we are where I expected us to be in terms of performance and development with the youngest squad in the league. We are on the right track.
Christian Eichner: We deserved to win today, because we had more and better chances than HSV, and we didn't let them have as much of the game as they usually do. We attacked high and early and tried to bypass the Hamburg pressing with long balls. We couldn't keep that up for 90 minutes, so we stood a little deeper in the second half. The team defended very well, hardly allowed any chances, implemented the instructions very well and deserved the applause of the spectators. Even if the victory would have been deserved.
