HSV had to work hard to come out on top at Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday evening. In the end managing to do so, which of course they were delighted with, even if coach Tim Walter was not entirely satisfied. The reason for this was that his team had missed the chance to take the lead through Jan Gyamerah and keep up the tempo. In the end, however, the Red Shorts found that gas pedal again and after Robert Glatzel's winning goal, they moved into the Second round of the DFB Cup by a narrow but altogether deserved margin. The voices on the classic cup match.
Jan Gyamerah: "Braunschweig put in a strong performance with their fans behind them, so it was a difficult game for us. After it went 1:0 we let up a bit and then conceded the equalizer just before the break. At halftime, we discussed that we wanted to be more active ourselves now. In the end, we triumphed with Robert's goal.
"Braunschweig threw themselves into every ball and every tackle."
Robert Glatzel: Braunschweig threw themselves into every ball and every tackle, which of course made it difficult for us. Especially since Braunschweig also had their fans behind them. But it was good that we kept at it and were able to assert ourselves at the End. The fact that I was able to score the decisive goal feels good to me, of course, but the only thing that matters is that we moved into the second round.
Tim Walter: We started the game very well, but we expected Braunschweig to be a bit deeper and to rely on switching moments. After the 1:0 they did it, we didn't have the willingness to get the best out of them. That's why we conceded the goal. That must not happen. I have to compliment my team on the second half. They tried to play out from the back and dominate the game. We put a lot of intensity into it and scored the goal. We did an outstanding job defending away the standards after that.
Michael Schiele: We wanted to stand a little deeper. If we had taken them higher, there would have been too much risk with their position changes. So we didn't allow much. The goal then comes from a mistake. That happens. But we deserved to equalize with a great counterattack. In the second half, we played more football. There were some good chances that could have ended differently. We didn't defend to our standard. It's a shame that we didn't manage to go to 120 minutes. I would have been curious to see how it would have turned out with the fans.
