“We’ll never forget this night”
A 6-1 home victory against SSV Ulm saw HSV win promotion to the Bundesliga. After the match ended and the team celebrated with the fans present at the Volksparkstadion, the Rothosen expressed their delight in the post-match interviews.
Merlin Polzin: It’s a very special day and I’m just so proud of the team, our staff and everyone affiliated with HSV. The match was a reflection of the season, because we had to deal with a setback today and overcome adversity. A hell of a lot of hard work and confidence has gone into what we have achieved today. We’re very grateful for the support this season and over the last years, which are all part of our journey and success today. During this time, HSV weren’t playing in the Bundesliga, but they certainly didn’t go away. We saw that today and then some. We’ll never forget this night.
Davie Selke: I’m simply overwhelmed. At no point in this game, even after we went behind, did I have the feeling that we wouldn’t win this game. We were very confident, we had the support of our fans and this spirit and performance finally got our reward for long and hard work. When the final whistle went and everyone stormed the pitch, I simply stood there and took it all in. I’ve been in football for a few years now, but I have never experienced anything like what I did today. I’m just so happy and proud that we have got promoted, and deservingly so, and brought HSV back where it belongs. It’s a pleasure to be a part of it.
“To have brought this club back to the Bundesliga after all these years is a wonderful feeling.”
Miro Muheim: I’m feeling so many emotions right now which I simply can’t put into words. We were so excited for the game, but of course there were some nerves. Now, I’m simply pleased and relieved. These are the games you become a footballer for, they’re the moments that make it all worth it. That’s why I’m not just happy, but relieved, and very grateful to be a part of it. To experience something like this, the cohesion between the fans and in the team, it’s great.
Ludovit Reis: It feels unbelievable, because we’ve fought so hard for this goal together and given everything - not just today, but also over the entire season. To have brought this club back to the Bundesliga after all these years is a wonderful feeling. The team and the fans gave everything, and it’s a wonderful feeling. I’m very happy that we approached this task with real focus, didn’t let ourselves be affected by their goal and have finally achieved this objective thanks to our mentality and support of the fans.
“When the final whistle went and everyone stormed the pitch, I simply stood there and enjoyed the moment.”
Ransford Königsdörffer: We made the game exciting at the start… but then our hero stepped up: Ferro’s penalty save was a decisive moment in the game. We couldn’t be stopped after that, were able to take the lead and then I was able to get involved. I saw the space for the chop and thought that I simply had to try it. It was absolutely the right call… it’s such a great feeling to have achieved promotion and we’re really looking forward to the Bundesliga.
Daniel Elfadil: It’s unbelievable, and it hasn’t quite sunk in yet. We worked the whole season for this one day and I personally have achieved a personal goal. I joined with the objective of getting promoted with HSV. I’m even more pleased for my teammates who have been here longer and have worked even longer for this moment, and of course for the fans as well. When the final whistle went and everyone stormed the pitch, I simply stood there and enjoyed the moment. Unbelievable!
“When you see what happened here today and feel the atmosphere, then it’s simply unbelievable.”
Lukasz Poreba: At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how we did it, but what does matter is that we got promoted. We had a bit of luck in the game, the penalty save was definitely the key moment. We couldn’t be stopped from there on in and when we were 3-1 up just before half-time, I knew we’d do it. We’ve given everything for this moment and it’s personally one of the best moments of my footballing career.
Jonas Meffert: We’re simply buzzing to have finally achieved promotion. It’s really not easy to achieve this with such a big club, because the pressure is always bigger compared to the smaller teams. Many of us have fought for this for several years, both in the team and of course the fans. When you see what happened here today and feel the atmosphere, then it’s simply unbelievable. It was amazing when the final whistle went and the fans stormed the pitch. It was a wonderful evening for us and for all HSV fans.
