Interview
14.12.22
"With Jonas Boldt we are on the home stretch".
In an interview with hsv.de, HSV Supervisory Board Chairman Marcell Jansen talks about the results of the last meeting of the controlling body in 2022.
Hsv.de:Mr Jansen, yesterday's supervisory board meeting produced very positive news for HSV. How do you rate the fixed financing of the construction measures in the Volksparkstadion?
Marcell Jansen: I am very pleased that we have mastered this challenge so well and in such a targeted manner thanks to joint work and despite the enormous time pressure. Dr. Eric Huwer, as the responsible CFO of HSV Fußball AG, implemented a very professional process in this regard and made an impressive final spurt. We consider the fact that the entire loan volume is being provided by several lenders to be a very good sign.
Does this also put an end to the public discussions about EURO 2024 and Hamburg as a venue?
Marcell Jansen: I assume so. HSV has kept its word to the city, has raised the capital for the necessary modernisation work on its own and will now take all further steps in close coordination with EURO 2024 GmbH. But I would also like to emphasise once again: The construction measures do not exclusively serve the EURO 2024, but are primarily aimed at our HSV fans and stadium visitors. The upgrading and continuous improvement of the stadium experience are core objectives of our efforts.
Another core topic of the meeting was to be the future direction in the sporting area. Did the committee come to any conclusions?
Marcell Jansen: Yes. As communicated months ago, we as the supervisory board have made good use of the window of opportunity since the last match of our professionals in 2022 and have held the relevant talks and made preparations. We are on the home stretch with regard to the desired contract extension with our board member Jonas Boldt.
The sporting development of HSV in 2022 is positive. And we are all challenged to maintain and promote the positive excitement and greed in the coming five months. Each of us can make our contribution to this.
What does that mean for the contracts of the entire coaching staff, which also expire in summer 2023?
Marcell Jansen: What I just said applies here as well. We have confidence. The coaching contracts are the responsibility of our board, with whom we have closely coordinated.
You and the Supervisory Board have had an eventful and anything but quiet few months. How would you sum up the year 2022?
Marcell Jansen: As the supervisory board, we have always communicated clearly, worked on blocks of topics and taken important steps. What is decisive is what we have implemented and what we achieve. The sporting ranking at the winter break is a good intermediate step. And with the turn of the year, we are all called upon again, because the next big challenges await us in 2023.
Thank you very much for the interview.
