Bruchhagen has held a number of positions in German professional football for over 40 years. After a career as player and head coach of DJK Gütersloh as well as their predecessors FC Gütersloh, Bruchhagen became general manager at Schalke 04 in 1989. He ended his time at the Royal Blues after three years, moving on to occupy the same role at HSV (1992-94) and then Arminia Bielefeld (1998-2001), before becoming managing director of the DFL from 2001 to 2003 and then finally chairman of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG from 2003 to 2016. The Harsewinkel native was also a PE and geography teacher in the 2000/01 season and from 2007 to 2015, as well as being a member of the DFL board of directors. Just before his return to HSV, Bruchhagen also spent time as a pundit and expert on pay TV channel Sky Deutschland.

Deputy CEO:

Frank Wettstein has been a chairman at HSV Fußball AG since November 2014. As deputy CEO, Wettstein is in charge of the areas of finance, business development/strategy, HR, legal, organisation & infrastructure, projects and fan liaison.

Before joining HSV, Wettstein spent a large part of his career at the auditing firm Baker Tilly Roelfs in Düsseldorf, where he eventually made partner.

He and his team of auditors and advisors turned self-employed in 2012, forming the auditing firm Wettstein Schmidt in Aachen. During this time, Wettstein was also partner of the Berlin consulting firm CIC Consultingpartner, where he predominantly looked after restructuring cases in the areas of real estate and the automotive industry, but also worked as a statutory auditor of publicly listed companies.

During his time as an auditor, Wettstein acted as an advisor to football clubs Borussia Dortmund, Alemannia Aachen and 1860 München among others, and so developed a reputation as a financial expert in German professional football.

The areas of brand and corporate social responsibility are covered by the whole board. The chairman of HSV Fußball AG is also chairman of the HSV foundation “Der Hambuger Weg” (“The Hamburg Way”).
