Match Preview vs 1.FC Magdeburg
Five games remain in the 2. Bundesliga. All focus turns to 1.FC Magdeburg.
Following on from the Stadtderby victory last weekend, Tim Walter’s side are hyped and focused on the next match that matters, an away trip to 1.FC Magdeburg. Both sides head into tomorrow’s clash with reasonably good current form. Although HSV have only two wins in the last five matches, only one defeat was accumulated along side two draws. Magdeburg are on the hunt for survival or “Klassenerhalt ” as they say in Germany. East Germany is the setting for Saturdays fixture and exciting affair as always, is to be expected.

Our Opponents:
1.FC Magdeburg are a tricky team in the 2. Bundesliga, a team that has rejuvenated themselves in the past few months. The side form the East of Germany have almost certainly saved themselves from heading back to the 3. Liga. Former HSV Head Coach Christian Titz pushed his team seven points clear of the relegation spots last weekend with an important victory over Eintracht Braunschweig. Playmakers Baris Atik and former HSV youngster, Moritz-Broni Kwarteng have brough 24 goals to the team this season and provide an bit of excitement in the final third at the MDCC-Arena. Winning the reverse fixture will surely be in the minds of the FCM players come Saturday and will be looking to make it two from two against HSV this season.

HSV Round Up:
The atmosphere is always pipped up more after a Stadtderby victory and that’s how it has been in training from Tim Walter and his side this past week. Jean Luc Dompe and Jonas Meffert joined back in with full training towards the end of the week, although Meffert will miss out Saturday’s fixture with a yellow card suspension. Other notable absence’s, sadly Andras Nemeth will miss the rest of the season following an operation at the start of the week but has already begun his rehab and comeback.

Match Facts:
A question of possession
Hamburger SV (59.1) and 1. FC Magdeburg (59.0) are the teams with the most possession in the 2nd division after SC Paderborn. While HSV comes a lot through the wings in this mix, FCM plays mainly through the middle. So far, the Rothosen have hit the most crosses and scored 17 goals from crosses. FCM, on the other hand, score 67 per cent of their goals through the centre - the highest percentage in the league. In the reverse fixture, the Titz eleven gave the ball away, had only 33 percent possession.
Winning streak away from home
So far, there have only been 3 competitive duels between the two clubs - always in the 2nd division and always won by the away team. FCM prevailed 3:2 in the reverse fixture in a dramatic match and won 2-1 at Volkspark in the 2018/19 season. HSV won 1-0 in their only away game in Magdeburg in October 2018, again when they were outnumbered. After a red card against David Bates (53rd), Khaled Narey (77th) provided the golden goal.
Triple reunion
Speaking of ex-HSVers: With head coach Christian Titz and the players Tatsuya Ito and Moritz-Broni Kwarteng, three former Rothosen will meet their old employers on Saturday. Titz, now 52, was with HSV from 2015 to 2018, first as a youth coach and later also with the professionals. The same goes for Ito (25), who played 37 competitive games for the professionals, and Kwarteng, who made three appearances for the professional team and also played 69 games for HSV II.
