Match Preview vs SC Paderborn
The top game of the weekend, a time to turn the form around. We head to Paderborn on Sunday.
HSV will visit Ostwestfalen to face second in the table SC Paderborn on Sunday to close of Matchday 14 in the 2. Bundesliga. Two teams that flirted with the opportunity for promotion last season and again doing the same thing. Both teams have been staples in the top 3 for the majority of the season and with only a few games to go until the extended winter break in a commanding position.

HSV Round Up:
Following a disappointing result last matchday, HSV will be looking turnaround this turn of form sooner rather than later. Injuries and suspensions have been at the heart of the squad in the past couple of weeks. New to the injury bed this week were Tom Mikel and Elijah Krahn. Although, both the team and Head Coach Tim Walter have said the performances have to be better. During the Friday afternoon Press Conference Walter commented on this, specifically against the defensive comments. “We are a team and must never depend on one player (…) we also have to defend better without Bascho.” We head to Paderborn as the best away side on the 2.Liga this season having only one defeat from our six trips on the road this year.

Match Facts:
Paderborn strong at home
While HSV is the ultimate away from home, SC Paderborn is the strongest team in the 2nd division at home: The East Westphalians have already won more games at home (six) than in the entirety of last season (four) and have collected a whopping 18 points. In fact, the SCP has only ever suffered one defeat at home in the Home-Deluxe-Arena - on the 10th matchday with 1:2 (1:2) against the current league leaders Darmstadt 98.
Anniversaries on the bench
Both Tim Walter (100th second league game) and Paderborn coach Lukas Kwasniok (50th) are facing a special second league anniversary. Interestingly, both coaches were once active at the same time in the youth sector of KSC, before Walter moved to the youth team of FC Bayern München in 2015. Kwasniok succeeded Walter as U17 coach and later took over Walter's U19 team. While Walter was also on the sidelines for VfB Stuttgart (18) and Holstein Kiel (34) in the Fußball-Unterhaus in addition to his 47 second division games for HSV, Kwasniok was in charge as head coach in 47 games for SC Paderborn and two games for KSC.
Twelfth competitive match duel
SCP and HSV meet for the twelfth time in a competitive match. In the previous eleven duels, there was always a winner: The balance shows seven HSV and five SCP victories. In the 2nd division, the Red Shorts have won four times, but were defeated twice. This was also the case in the last encounter on matchday 28 of the pre-season, when the Walter men lost 1:2 (0:2) after a brace by Srbeny and a late goal by Chakvetadze.
