Rene Adler leaves HSV

The 32 year old keeper will not extend his current contract which ends on June 30th 2017. The former Germany stopper made 129 appearances for the Rothosen.

Rene Adler HSV have parted company. The seasoned keeper has decided not to extend his current contract at the Volksparkstadion which expires next month on June 30th. Adler broke the news to HSV sport boss Jens Todt on Monday (22.05). Adler: “It is solely my decision. I don’t have a plan B and have not been talking to any other clubs. I have no idea what will be happening after the summer break”, announced the keeper on his Facebook page. He then added: “I am aware that such moves are unusual in football, but having the courage to make my own decisions has always been important to me. I do not leave HSV on bad terms but with humility – especially after the latest ending to a season. Hamburg has become my home and will be again after my playing days are over.”

Of course life goes on at HSV after Adler’s decision. Sport boss Jens Todt: “We respect his decision and desire for a sporting change. He was a mainstay at this club for over five years. We thank him for his perormances in a HSV shirt and wish him the best of luck.”

Adler played for HSV for over five years making 129 appearances for them. He missed the end of the season just ended after breaking ribs in the game against Dortmund. The whole club wishes Rene the best of luck for the future.
