"Our basic principles make us"

With a very commanding 4-0 away win at FC Ingolstadt 04, Hamurger SV climbed to 4th place in the second division table on matchday 32. And two matchdays before the end of the season, the table is as exciting as usual: while FC Schalke 04 regained the top spot with a 2-1 last-minute win at Sandhausen, Werder Bremen lost 3-2 at home to Kiel after leading 2-0 and slipped down to 3rd place, as SV Darmstadt 98 followed up their HSV victory on Saturday with a 6-0 thumping to move up to 2nd place. So there is a lot of excitement in the 2nd division, in which HSV, after three wins in a row and with a very clear playing style, can still have a say, as long as they do their homework, as they did in Ingolstadt. ... his own style of play: It is our strength that we remain patient and are variable. Our goal-scoring in Ingolstadt also showed that. We have our basic principles that define us: We want to have the ball a lot, let the opponent run and thus tire him out. Our style of play is a constant process. We have always successively added new things and developed them further. We always want to play football in a courageous way. Of course, a lot of things are offensive, but if you take that on from the start and want to push through, then you also have the willingness to want to remain brave throughout the rest of the season. That's what the team lives and wants. You can feel that.

... den eingeschlagenen Weg: Wir haben hier etwas kreiert. Wir haben großes Vertrauen in das Trainerteam und die Mannschaft. Auch die Fans spüren das, wenngleich manchmal Ungeduld da ist, wenn du Spiele nicht gewinnst. Aber das Feedback ist immens groß und positiv, weil die Leute sagen, dass sie sich mit dem Weg identifizieren können, dass sie eine Truppe sehen, die alles für den Verein gibt und hinter der sie gerne stehen. Wenn wir in dieser Konstellation zusammenbleiben, dann kann hier richtig etwas wachsen. Und genau das ist, was dem HSV die letzten zehn bis 20 Jahre gefehlt hat. Es gab von außen selten dieses Gefühl, dass eine richtige Einheit und Geschlossenheit herrscht. Aber nur so wirst du auf Strecke bestehen. Ansonsten wirst du jedes Jahr alles umschmeißen und von Neuem beginnen.   

... die Tabellensituation:  Die Saison ist noch nicht zu Ende. Wir haben selbst mehrfach erlebt, wie eng es zur Sache gehen kann. Es gibt bei der Verrücktheit der Liga keine Garantien. Wir müssen uns weiter auf uns konzentrieren. Wenn wir das gut hinbekommen, werden wir den Rest der Saison erfolgreich gestalten können. Mit zwei Siegen kann noch etwas gehen. Das Wichtigste ist, dass die Jungs wollen. Sie stecken nicht auf und wehren sich. Und auch das hat mit der Spielidee zu tun. Wir wollten bewusst eine Basis haben, von der die Jungs selbst überzeugt sind. Sie können sich nicht immer hinter dem Trainer verstecken, sondern müssen aus sich herauskommen. Das spürt man. Sie bringen sich unglaublich gut ein, auch im gesamten Verein.
