Walter: "The tingling is there".
In the press conference before the start of the second leg against Eintracht Braunschweig, HSV coach Tim Walter spoke about new signing Andras Nemeth, the retention of Sonny Kittel and the anticipation of the first match of the year.
The long wait is over: After a break of eleven weeks or 78 days, Hamburger SV will play a competitive match again on Sunday afternoon (live on HSVnetradio from 1.15 pm). As part of the 18th matchday of the second division, the Reds will welcome Eintracht Braunschweig, a team promoted to the second division, and want to confirm their position - second after the first half of the season with the most wins (eleven) of all second division teams. True to his equally ambitious and passionate nature, HSV head coach Tim Walter is eager for the first home match of 2023, as was made clear at today's press conference. "We are all looking forward to entering the cauldron again after a long time. We want to exude what everyone expects of us: energy and anticipation for the game!", the 47-year-old explained.
In detail, Walter spoke in the press conference about ...
... Newcomer Andras Nemeth: "He's only been here for a short time, but he makes a very willing and open impression. We sat together earlier and talked about a few principles, what we expect from a striker. It will be very exciting to see how he can perhaps implement these aspects at the weekend. He brings a lot of good things with him. We are happy that he is here and that we have gained such a talented boy.
... the whereabouts of Sonny Kittel: We have said that he has an offer. It's important to us that the time of concealment is over. We try to deal openly with such topics. In exchange with Jonas Boldt and Claus Costa, it is now the optimal solution for us that he stays. I have often said that I would use my veto, even though the club is always above everything. I am glad that we have made this decision. Sonny is an absolute role model in the dressing room. He can make the difference on the pitch, decide games with his skills. Maybe he didn't show that in the first half of the season, but I'm sure he will in the second half. He has grown up and become more open. We are all happy that he is still on board.
... the anticipation of the start of the second round: We have been together for a long time. This has created a great deal of trust - not only within the team, but also with the entire city and its people. The people who care a lot about the well-being of HSV are going along with us on our chosen path. We experienced this again yesterday at the New Year's reception. There is great anticipation. The tingling is there. We are all looking forward to entering the cauldron again on Sunday after a long time. We want to spread what everyone expects of us: energy and anticipation for the game!
... the opponents from Braunschweig: Braunschweig have strengthened their team during the season and also now in the winter. They are dangerous in the forward play because of their switching and cross play. Nevertheless, we have learned our lessons from the first half of the season. We can't prevent everything. There will be situations where we lose the ball and have standards against us, but then it's about defending them away.
